WASHINGTON - American University senior defender Denise Infante has been selected the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was named an ECAC Division I All-Star, ECAC officials announced Tuesday.
Infante, who led American to a 16-5 record and a fifth straight Patriot League title this past season, scored a team-leading 13 goals and 28 points in her final season in the red, white and blue.
In her time with the Eagles, Infante was a key cog for a team that went 63-15 (.808) with her as a starter. Most recently, after the conclusion of this past season, she was named AU field hockey's fourth First Team All-American.
Infante was also named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career and a First-Team All-League selection. She was named All-Patriot League in each of her four seasons at American. Infante also won the Patriot League Tournament Most Valuable Player Award at the conclusion of this season's PL tourney. She won the award in three of four seasons, only giving way to her sister, Camila Infante, in the 2006 season.
Infante finished her career as one of AU's all-time leading scorers. Her 35 career goals ranked her sixth all-time in program history, while her 30 career assists also put her sixth on the career charts. She is just the sixth player in school history to tally triple-digits in points, with her 100 career points.
