Field Hockey's Denise Infante Named Longstreth/NFHCA Division I First-Team All-American

Nov. 29, 2007

WASHINGTON - Senior defender Denise Infante has been selected as a Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association First-Team All-American, NFHCA officials announced recently.

Infante was a four-time All-Patriot League selection and a three-time Patriot League Tournament MVP.

Infante, who was named Second-Team All-American after the 2006 season, had a dominating season for the Eagles. Despite playing from the back line, the Santiago, Chile, native led American, which was ranked in the top-20 the entire season, with 33 points coming on a team-leading 10 goals and a team-leading 13 assists.

Infante finished her career as one of AU's all-time leading scorers. Her 35 career goals ranked her sixth all-time in program history, while her 30 career assists also put her sixth on the career charts. She is just the sixth player in school history to tally triple-digits in points, with her 100 career points.

In her time with the Eagles, Infante was a key cog for a team that went 63-15 (.808) with her as a starter. Most recently, Infante was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career and a First-Team All-League selection. She was named All-Patriot League in each of her four seasons at American. Infante also won the Patriot League Tournament Most Valuable Player Award at the conclusion of this season's PL tourney. She won the award in three of four seasons, only giving way to her sister, Camila Infante, in the 2006 season.

Infante becomes AU's eighth all-time First Team All-American, and fourth from the field hockey program, three of which have been under current head coach Steve Jennings. Stacy Siu-Butt earned the honor in 1996 and Javiera Villagra was named a First-Teamer in 2004 and 2005. American now has 76 all-time All-Americans, including 12 from the field hockey program.
